How are y’all doing? I’m attempting some car video production again. Currently waiting on a file transfer (variable framerate is irritating) and my computer is tied up for a while. Ask me anything? It’s been a while and I’ve got lots of big plans ahead. I hope y’all are having a good week too.

When are you going to turbo the 2? 5SGTE swaps are getting pretty common with off the shelf parts. If you feel like breaking the S54 like a twig

Nobody makes a CARB-compliant turbo kit for the 5S-FE. In fact, the only performance part for this engine that’s approved is a K&N performance air filter. Not an intake, just a filter. As I daily drive the car I don’t have many power options short of a full engine swap. I’ve kinda resigned to having only 130 hp for the foreseeable future.
I might look at a 2GR + E153 combo someday. V6 power would be awesome.

It’s about a mid-engine car, but not the MR2. I will definitely make MR2 videos soon though!

Forgot you were Cali. For 2GR plus manual you need the Evora ECU. If you do ful l USDM 2nd Gen 3SGTE swap is that CARB compliant as it was available in the same chassis?

I have a verbal offer for a new job but it’s a 15% pay cut, I hate my current job and it’s making me miserable. Should I just eat this pay cut (makes no difference to my lifestyle) without negotiating?

Don’t bother. Get a Fiero.
I got mine for $1,600 back in 2017, and it was stock with 140,000 miles. It was the best deal of several on the market.
Now the cheapest one listed in SoCal is a heavily modified and bodykitted MR2 that hasn’t run since 2010. $11,000.
Fieros can be had for $4-7k in pretty good condition. They’re equally mid-engine and rad, and still have a decent aftermarket.

I’ve driven a track-prepped one on the road with 350whp or so and you know what? It just made me nervous (and embarrassed to drive through town with the ridiculous exhaust). Way more fun and reliable
for a daily with the stock engine. Hell, the person who brought it to my house apparently
had to replace his IAC valve after visiting because the dust from my road messed up his tune.
What happened to your fender?

That’s a good point. The 3SGTE has plenty of smog-legal parts and it’s a more common swap. How do you like yours?

That’s good to know. I’d probably go for a quieter exhaust since I daily drive it a lot.
That fender’s actually always looked like that, I even thought it was part of the design initially. Not sure what happened prior to my ownership.

Negotiating is always worth it. Whatever you’re comfortable with, maybe don’t play too much hardball with them if you’re worried it’d lose you the offer.

Interesting, and good to know.
I mean, not that I’m in the market, but I’m always curious. I think if I had to replace my car tomorrow, I’d either find some cheap crap heap to run for a few more years, or try to find a used Chevy Bolt. I’ve seen a few suspiciously cheap ones listed in California.

The 2nd Gen 3SGTE (which is what the US market MR2 Turbo got) is a fine enough engine, with some dated technology like the AFM and distributor. It’s great in the chassis, but there’s certainly better options now. But 200HP/200TQ is a great starting point before you do boost controller, and whatever else you can get through CARB
Mine is the 4th Gen 3SGTE with coil-on-plug, bigger injectors, and other improvements along the way, and it is bananas-fun. Slightly smaller turbo on it than the 2nd gen, which boosts really quickly without lag but falls off on the top end a bit. Still extremely fun.
I need a dyno day to see what it’s putting down, but it should be something like 260-280 at the wheels as it stands

That’s really good to hear. I know people often do the gen 4/5 swap out here in CA so I might look further into that. The newer designs definitely would be nice.
260 at the wheels is more than double what mine makes currently and would certainly liven things up. Thank you for the details on it! I hadn’t considered that angle and it sounds promising.

I can’t hit the big clubs off the ground because I am a trash golfer . I can play pretty well when I am interested and calm but that is only for 7-8 holes. I only play once a year in a tournament with my dad.
For at least one round we are always paired up with this guy who had/has the hots for my wife. I am one of those people who does really well under pressure/in those sorts of situations and we always SMOKE them. I’m always a DICK about it too, I’ll play in bare feet, and say things like “weird...you guys play golf all the time...I never play.”
Then I go back to playing like garbage but enjoy the time with my dad.
